Kingdom Citizen — Andre Bronkhorst AM
Matthew 6:33
○ The kingdom of this world. ○ The kingdom of God.
1. Citizenship in the Kingdom of God
- Jesus taught about the kingdom of God.
- The kingdom is here and now.
- Receiving Christ means being transferred into a new kingdom.
- A believer still lives in this world but becomes a citizen of a different kingdom.
- Jesus explained to Nicodemus that a person must be born again into this kingdom.
- Two kingdoms function around us:
○ The kingdom of this world. ○ The kingdom of God.
2. Faith Is the Currency of the Kingdom
- Different nations require different currencies.
- The currency of this world is money.
- The currency of the kingdom of God is faith.
- In the kingdom of God, a thousand dollars and a million dollars are the same.
- Receiving depends on faith.
- Believers live by faith rather than sight.
- Faith remains part of the entire journey.
- Breakthroughs come, but there will always be something else to trust God for.
- “We don’t fake it, we faith it.”
3. Seek the Kingdom First
Matthew 6:33
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness … and all these things shall be added unto you.”
- “First” establishes a priority.
- Other things can be pursued, but the kingdom belongs at the top of the list.
- “All” excludes nothing.
- “Added” means:
○ Given to. ○ Joined to. ○ Increase.
- Prioritizing the kingdom allows other things to fall into place.
- The world’s order is to build a life, job, and family, then seek God with whatever time remains.
- The kingdom’s order is to put God first.
4. Kingdom Living Means Community Involvement
2 Kings 4:13
“You’ve gone to all this trouble for us. Now what can be done for you? Can we speak on your behalf to the king or the commander of the army?”
“I have a home among my people.”
- A woman and her husband provided lodging for the prophet.
- The prophet offered to speak to the king or commander on her behalf.
- Her response reflected her connection to her people.
- Kingdom business, kingdom lifestyle, and kingdom church involve participation in the community.
- If a business closed, a church shut down, or a family moved away, would anyone notice?
- Involvement means investing in people and reaching the community.
5. Souls Are the Kingdom’s Most Precious Possession
- The kingdom’s most precious commodity is souls.
- Kingdom involvement means involvement in people’s lives.
- That involvement extends beyond the church building.
- Two callings were described:
○ The business of ministry. ○ The ministry of business.
- The workplace becomes a platform for ministry and influence.
- Kingdom participation continues throughout the week.
- Everyone must participate in advancing the church.
- The illustration from Israel emphasized everyone reporting for duty.
6. Treasure Reveals the Heart
Matthew 6:21
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.”
- Spending reveals where a person’s treasure is.
- When the heart is in the kingdom, support follows.
- The church-building illustration from Switzerland emphasized buying for the future.
- Andre shared that America had a two-year window to advance.
- He encouraged churches to acquire property.
- The building-plan illustration contrasted:
○ A 5,000-seat building for the present. ○ A 15,000-seat building for the next generation.
- Future generations will benefit from what is being established at Faith Center.
7. Ask for Nations and Become a Faithful Steward
Psalm 2:8
“Ask me and I will make the nations your inheritance and the ends of the earth your possession.”
- God’s invitation extends beyond asking for a salary or food.
- The challenge described was stewardship rather than a shortage of resources.
- God seeks people who can steward kingdom wealth.
- A “cash out” mentality sets a financial number at which a person plans to leave.
- That motive can delay blessing.
- The question presented was: Can God bless you and know that you will stay?
- Kingdom priorities must remain first regardless of prosperity.
- Mammon must not control a person’s life.
8. Own Nothing; Steward Everything
- “You own nothing, but you are a steward of everything.”
- Surrender includes life, wealth, and resources.
- God teaches people to steward what He places in their lives.
- A businessman supplied a gas card for ministry in his city.
- His support was specifically intended to advance the kingdom in that community.
- God positions and prospers people to use their lives for His glory.
- God needs generous people who can become channels.
- Questions presented:
○ Will you stay? ○ What does God need from you? ○ Why did He put you here? ○ Why do you work this job? ○ What is your responsibility where He has placed you?
- Accepting that responsibility makes a person a channel for blessing.
9. Closing Prayer
- Seek the kingdom first.
- Realign priorities.
- Move the kingdom to the top of the list.
- Trust God to add what is needed.
